Wallets, Keys और Addresses
Public keys, private keys, और "not your keys, not your coins" का meaning।
Crypto wallets traditional wallets से बहुत अलग हैं। यह वो "container" नहीं हैं जिनमें आपके coins physically रखे हैं। बल्कि, wallet सिर्फ एक interface है जो आपकी "private keys" को manage करता है, और private keys ही असली ownership prove करती हैं।
Three essential concepts:
- Private key — एक 256-bit का secret number जो आपके crypto का ownership prove करता है। जिसके पास private key है, वही उन coins को spend कर सकता है। यह कभी किसी से share नहीं करनी
- Public key — private key से mathematically derived; इसे आप दूसरों के साथ share कर सकते हैं ताकि वे आपको crypto भेज सकें
- Address — public key का shortened version (जैसे Bitcoin address: bc1qxy2... या Ethereum address: 0x742d...); यह आपके "bank account number" की तरह है।
Wallet types:
- Hot wallets — internet-connected, daily use के लिए convenient। Examples: Trust Wallet, MetaMask, exchange wallets (CoinDCX). Risk: अगर device hack हो जाए या malware infected हो, तो keys compromised
- Cold wallets — internet से disconnected, secure। Hardware wallets जैसे Ledger Nano या Trezor — physical device में keys store होती हैं, transactions sign करने के लिए हर बार device में data verify करना पड़ता है। Best for long-term holdings (₹2 lakh+)
- Paper wallets — keys printed on paper, ultra-secure पर use करना cumbersome।
Custodial vs Non-custodial: Critical distinction। Exchange wallets (CoinDCX, Binance India) custodial हैं — exchange आपकी private keys hold करता है। Convenient, पर अगर exchange hack या bankrupt हो जाए (FTX 2022, WazirX 2024), आपके funds gone हो सकते हैं। Non-custodial wallets (Trust Wallet, MetaMask, hardware wallets) — आप खुद private keys hold करते हैं, full control। Phrase remember करें: "Not your keys, not your coins।"
Seed phrase — most critical concept। जब आप non-custodial wallet setup करते हैं, तो आपको 12 या 24 random words का sequence मिलता है — यही आपकी master backup है। अगर आपका phone खो जाए, चोरी हो जाए, टूट जाए — आप इन 12 words से किसी भी compatible wallet में अपने funds recover कर सकते हैं। Seed phrase को: physically write करके safe जगह रखें (preferably 2 copies, अलग-अलग locations पर); कभी photo न लें, cloud पर न save करें; किसी से कभी share न करें (legitimate support कभी नहीं मांगता)।
Indian context में recommendation: छोटे amounts (<₹50K) exchange wallet पर ठीक हैं; ₹50K-₹2L hot wallet (Trust Wallet) में, hardware wallet aspire करें; ₹2L+ definitely hardware wallet में। Hardware wallets Indian market में Amazon पर available हैं — Ledger Nano S Plus (~₹7,500), Trezor One (~₹6,500)। Investment worth it अगर long-term crypto rakhna है।
