DEX बनाम CEX

CEX = CoinDCX (custodial)। DEX = Uniswap (self-custody)। कब कौन use करें।

Lesson 2 of 76 min

Crypto trading दो worlds में होती है: CEX (Centralized Exchanges) और DEX (Decentralized Exchanges)। दोनों के fundamental differences हैं — different use cases, different risks।

CEX (Centralized Exchange) — CoinDCX, Binance India, WazirX:

Traditional broker model: - Company owns the platform - KYC required - Custodial: exchange holds your funds - Order book matching engine - INR deposits/withdrawals - Customer support - Regulatory compliance (FIU-IND)

DEX (Decentralized Exchange) — Uniswap, SushiSwap, Curve:

Smart contract-based: - No company; protocol code - No KYC (purely on-chain) - Non-custodial: your wallet, your keys - Automated Market Maker (AMM) instead of order book - Crypto-only (no INR direct) - No customer support (community forums) - Generally unregulated (gray area)

Detailed comparison:

| Aspect | CEX | DEX | |---|---|---| | Ease of use | Easy | Medium-Hard | | Speed | Fast | Network-dependent | | INR access | Yes | No (via stablecoins) | | Privacy | Low (KYC) | High | | Coin variety | 100-500 | 1000s | | Fees | 0.1-0.5% | 0.3% + gas | | Self-custody | No | Yes | | Counterparty risk | Yes (FTX!) | No | | Customer support | Yes | None | | Tax handling | Auto-TDS | Manual |

When to use CEX: - New to crypto - INR on/off ramp needed - Active trading (lower friction) - Need customer support - Compliant with Indian regulations directly

When to use DEX: - Privacy concerns - Rare/new tokens unavailable on CEX - Self-custody priority - DeFi composability needed - Cross-protocol interactions

Indian context:

Most Indians: 95% activity should be CEX (CoinDCX, Binance India)। FIU compliance, INR access, tax simplicity।

DEX use cases: - New token launches before CEX listings - DeFi yield strategies - Cross-chain swaps (1inch, Matcha aggregators) - Privacy-conscious holders

Tax differences:

CEX trade: - Auto-TDS (1%) - Tax statements generated - Form 26AS reflects - Easy compliance

DEX trade: - No TDS automatically (your responsibility) - Manual tracking required - Each swap = taxable event - Schedule VDA reporting yourself - ITR-3 might be needed for high volume

Practical recommendation:

Tier 1 (CEX) — 80% of crypto activity: - INR deposits - Trading major coins (BTC, ETH, SOL, etc.) - Long-term holding (with hardware wallet) - SIP investments

Tier 2 (DEX) — 20% of crypto activity: - Specific tokens unavailable on CEX - DeFi participation (lending, LP) - Cross-chain bridges - Privacy needs

Beware DEX pitfalls (Indian users): 1. Wrong network selection — funds lost on bridge 2. Slippage on low liquidity — large % 3. Front-running by MEV bots 4. Scam tokens easily listable on DEXs 5. Tax tracking nightmare

Bridge from CEX to DEX: 1. Buy USDC on CoinDCX (or Binance India) 2. Withdraw to MetaMask (choose Polygon for low fees) 3. On Polygon, use QuickSwap (Polygon DEX) 4. Track everything for tax

CEX backbone रहेगा most Indian users के लिए। DEX advanced functionality के लिए — both have complementary roles।
