DeFi और Staking

DeFi क्या है?

Banks की जगह smart contracts — middleman के बिना lending, borrowing, trading।

Lesson 1 of 76 min

DeFi = Decentralized Finance। Traditional banking system को smart contracts से replace करने का movement। 2020 से explode हुआ। Today $50+ billion TVL (Total Value Locked) sector-wide।

Traditional Finance vs DeFi:

Lending: Traditional — bank judge करता है eligibility, sets rates, holds funds। DeFi — smart contract collateral lock करता है, algorithm rates set करता है, instant approval।

Trading: Traditional — broker, exchange, settlement days। DeFi — peer-to-peer via Automated Market Maker (AMM), instant settlement।

Earning interest: Traditional — bank decides FD rate, gives 5-7% taxable। DeFi — supply assets to lending protocol, rates determined by demand, often 5-20%।

Core DeFi services:

1. Lending/Borrowing। Aave, Compound, MakerDAO। ETH lock करो, USDC borrow करो। Or USDC supply करो, interest earn करो।

2. DEXs (Decentralized Exchanges)। Uniswap, SushiSwap, Curve, Balancer। Token swap without centralized exchange।

3. Stablecoins। DAI (algorithmic), USDC, USDT (centralized but DeFi-usable)।

4. Derivatives। dYdX, GMX। Perpetuals, options on-chain।

5. Yield aggregators। Yearn Finance। Automatically best yield optimize करती हैं।

6. Insurance। Nexus Mutual। Smart contract risk insurance।

Permissionless और composable:

Key concept: DeFi protocols "money LEGOs" हैं। Anyone can build on top। एक protocol का output दूसरे का input। Example: Aave से borrow → Uniswap पर swap → Yearn में deposit। All in one transaction।

Indian context — DeFi participation:

Pros: - Higher yields possible (5-20% vs FD 6-7%) - 24/7 access - Self-custody (no exchange risk) - Global access (Indian banking limits bypass)

Cons (significant for Indians): - Tax complexity: हर interaction = taxable event - Smart contract risk: hacks billions lose हो चुके हैं - No regulation: protection if something goes wrong = zero - Indian exchanges don't directly connect — withdraw to wallet first, then DeFi - Gas fees: Ethereum mainnet expensive, Polygon recommended

Indian-friendly DeFi entry path:

Step 1: Buy ETH/USDC on CoinDCX or Binance India। Step 2: Withdraw to MetaMask wallet (Polygon network for low fees)। Step 3: Visit Aave (aave.com) — connect wallet। Step 4: Supply USDC, earn ~3-5% APY। Step 5: Track all transactions for ITR।

Realistic expectations: - Started with ₹50,000 - Aave USDC supply at 4% APY = ₹2,000/year - Indian tax 31.2% = ₹624 tax - Net: ₹1,376 (2.75% net APY) - Vs FD 6.5% taxed at slab 10% = ~5.85% net

For Indians: FD often better risk-adjusted। DeFi for crypto exposure + diversification, not primary yield source।

Top safety practices: 1. Established protocols only (Aave, Uniswap, Compound — 3+ years, billions TVL) 2. Small amounts initially (<₹10K to learn) 3. Avoid "high yield" protocols (20%+ APY = high risk) 4. Don't use admin-key controlled protocols (centralization defeats purpose) 5. Monitor for exploits — Twitter, Discord alerts 6. Track everything — tax compliance crucial
